Carlotta Guiducci, Ph.D

Carlotta Guiducci graduated (summa cum laude) in Electrical Engineering at the University of Bologna in 2001 with a BS Final project in Microelectronics, developed at the Institut de Microelectronique, Electromagnétisme et Photonique (IMEP) – Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (INPG) and at the Laboratoire de Technologies Electroniques et de l’Information (LETI) – Commissariat pour l’Energie Atomique (CEA) (France).
Then, she re-joined the Department of Electronics, Informatics and Computer Science of the University of Bologna from which she received a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering  in 2005. 

In 2003 she has been visiting researcher at the Laboratoire des Matériaux et du Génie Physique (LMGP), Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (INPG) (France).
Between 2005 and 2006, she has been visiting professor at the Ecole Supérieure de Physique et Chimie Industrielles, Paris (France). She is now working for CNRS in the same istitution.
She is Erasmus Lecturer at the CSI in EPFL (CH).

From an industrial research viewpoint, Carlotta Guiducci has been technical consultant in two research projects founded by STMicroelectronics –Italy and Infineon Technologies - Germany. In 2005 she won the Best paper Award of STMicroelectronics on the occasion of the annual meeting of the Italian Electronic Group 2005 (GE).
She participated to the development of the first fully-electronic marker-free DNA CMOS chip with Infineon Technologies in 2004.

She developed a UV technique for the marker-free detection of molecular-recognition on surfaces which was released as a patent of the University of Bologna in 2005.

Researches by Carlotta Guiducci (between 2001 and 2006) yielded 12 papers in international journals and peer-reviewed international conference proceedings.
She participates to several projects founded by the Italian government (FIRB and COFIN) and to a European Project of the FP6
Concerning teaching experiences, Carlotta Guiducci colllaborates to the “Digital Electronics” course at the Electronics, Informatics and Computer Science Department (DEIS) of the University of Bologna and the “Biosensors” course for the biotechnology career of the University of Bologna. She also teaches classes on “Microsystems” at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” (Italy) and on “Hardware Software Co-design” at the University of Bologna.
She is reviewer for international journals (IEEE Transaction on CAD, Biosensors and Bioelectronics-Elsevier and Sensors and Actuators – Elsevier).
The research interests of Carlotta Guiducci focus mainly on the development and characterization of electronic systems for molecular detection  in  point-of-care diagnostics and monitoring applications. In particular, she is interested in (i) the characterization of semiconductor sensors as molecular-reactions transducers, (ii) the compatibility issues related to the employment of silicon systems as bio-sensing devices, (iii) the design, development and characterization of bio-chip platforms, (iv) the characterization of innovative low-cost materials for bio-sensors development.

From the technical viewpoint, Carlotta Guiducci matured a deep knowledge in the characterization of solid-state devices, ranging from MOS devices for high processing speed (1.2 nm gate oxide), to  field-effect hetero-structures (Electrolyte-oxide, semiconductor), and to optoelectronic ultra sensitive junctions. She also has a strong expertise in chemical bio-modification of surfaces and in standard and innovative techniques of molecular characterization.

She is reviewer for three international journal and for the DATE and ESSDERC conferences.
